RICK CRANE MUSIC REVIEWS
Rufus Reid, Bassist – This Rick Crane and Bob Himmelberger duo recording (Duality) is extra special. This is a “real jazz” recording. It is obvious from the start that they are seasoned players making world-class music with incredible simpatico. The program is excellent rendering classic tunes from the American songbook to the most revered jazz tunes. I was engaged from beginning to end with the musicality of both of these fine creative musicians. Multiple listening is definitely in order.
BRAVO GENTLEMEN!
BRAVO GENTLEMEN!
Richie Cole, Saxophonist – Rick crane is one of the finest bass players I’ve ever had the pleasure to work with. We first met many years ago and he has been working regularly with my Alto Madness Orchestra for about the last six years. He really knows how to drive a big band and after hearing his latest CD I now understand the other side of Rick Crane. Rick and Bob Himmelberger play perfect together, as one. The music speaks for itself. A fine choice of some of the greats jazz classics with swinging, sensitive, original interpretations by Bob and Rick, both virtuosos on their instruments. This is one of the finest duos I’ve ever heard. If you don’t enjoy this beautiful music, you don’t like music. Great job Rick and Bob.
Frank Sole, New Jersey Jazz Society – Bob and Rick began to play and they were hot and swingin’! I finished eating and settled back with a beer to listen. Well about half way through the set Rick announced that a special surprise guess was going to sit in on guitar. Being a guitar player I was happily wondering who it might be. Rick then introduced none other than Russell Malone who proceeded to turn the heat up a notch and the band never looked back. This was the first time Bob and Rick had met Russell and it was as much a surprise to them as it was to the audience. Bob and Rick and Russell were having a great time and so was the audience.
